NIC THARPA CARTIER - NOMAD HEART
NIC THARPA CARTIER has been a working artist for over twelve years and a student of Tibetan Buddhism -- Tharpa being a Tibetan word for liberation. He has become one of the most sought after henna artists in the Northeastern US, a performance artist, jeweler and painter. The scope if his work ranges from trendy to ancient, owing to the huge variety of artistic influences he employs. Nic has had a strong interest in all forms of body art for many years, and henna fits into his passion for adornment and modification. He has a tribal aesthetic and believes in embracing all forms of body modification and ritual, including henna, as an important medium for reclaiming ones' body and being beautiful by one's personal standards.
Nick's deep interest in ethnography influences all his art, creating a truly unique expression. He is a self-published author with a new book coming out soon on North African henna patterns. Some of his artwork can be seen on his website, www.nomadheart.com and on Flickr. His new paintings will be a raw and exciting part of Artful Henna's exhibit.
